HANDCRAFTED ORIGINAL ARTWORK
“Crowned in Cloth and Reflection” by LaSonja Polk ~ July 2025
She stands in silence, onlooking, tall and bright, A queen stitched from the threads of hope.
Her crown is lace, her robe aglow,
With stories only fabrics know.
In golden hues and rusted flame, Each pattern calls a sacred name.
A whisper from the past sewn tight— Harriet’s courage, Douglass’s fight.
“I’m free,” the music gently hums,
From stitched-in lines where freedom drums. A needle’s prayer, a thread’s embrace, Wraps history in a mother’s grace.
Beside her stands a child so small,
In patchwork love, she stands so tall. Circles of quilts, old dresses torn, Now worn as pride by daughters born.
Leopard prints frame their gentle stance, Woven in strength, not left to chance. Ancestral hands in silent praise,
Guide every seam, each layered phrase.
This is not fabric—this is flame,
A living art that speaks her name.
Queen of cloth, with roots so wide,
Holding the past, growing forward, pushing softly, the child, the pride.

A hand-crafted sustainable suit jacket becomes a living canvas of identity, and remembrance. The back of the jacket features a bold silhouette of the African continent, appliquéd and painted with ancestral patterns that honor Legacy, History, and LIFE. Above it, eyeglass frames float as a loving symbol of
“Always keeping my eyes on Africa with so much Love.”
Layered beneath the continent is a stack of fabric-collaged books representing Education, wisdom, and the passing down of knowledge. Hints of Royalty appear through gold tones, Kente accents, and grounded earth textures. The Roman numeral IV stands firm, anchoring generational strength as the design SOARs with cultural richness.
Subtle symbols of The Cross, a Shooting Star, cowrie shells, and JEMs that honors the father, into the piece as a reminder of faith, hope, and legacy.
More than wearable art, this jacket is a story. A visual praise song crafted from a promise, culture, and eternal love for Heritage Keepers.
With deep gratitude, Handcrafted with love, always.
